Lebensmittelgeschäft 12 km, Supermarkt 12 km, Restaurant 100 m, Bushaltestelle 100 m, Bahnstation Osterode 12 km, Hallenbad 12 km. Golfplatz (18 Loch) 29 km, Angelmöglichkeit 12 km. Bitte beachten: Angeln (mit Bewilligung). Der Besitzer wohnt im selben Haus. Um das Grundstück herum verläuft der Fluss Söse als direkter Zufluss zur Sösetalsperre. Besitzer wohnt nur zeitweise im Haus.

We have just returned from a two week stay in Altes Forthaus. The apartment is on the first floor - it is very spacious and is in excellent condition throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped and the two bedrooms are large each with two separate beds that could be pushed together as a double or used as two single beds. The living room is furnished with two very comfortable settees and two chairs. There is a lovely garden area with BBQ and seats overlooking a stream which runs past the property.
All in all this is one of the best holiday properties we have stayed in and we would highly recommend.
The property is owned by the Rogge-Gross family who use the lower apartment as a holiday home. They were staying there while we were there and were very welcoming and extremely helpful giving us ideas of where to go and had provided in the cottage a large selection of information of places to see and go including books on the area.
We visited with our two teenage sons and had a lovely, relaxing time. Locally there is a very good restaurant (less than 100m away) serving excellent traditional German food. There is a small shop and café both within walking distance. Sadly the outdoor swimming pool mentioned in the details had not been used for some time but there is a large swimming complex with both outdoor and indoor pools a short distance away in Osterode.
The area itself is beautiful and very suited to people who like walking. There are a lot of mountain biking opportunities in the area and road cycling is also popular - although the steepness of the roads in some places does not make for a relaxing cycle ride!
The journey by steam train to the top of the Brocken on the narrow gauge Harz railway was one of the highlights of our stay - the highest point in the area at 1142 metres. Although expensive for a family of essentially 4 adults, it was well worth the trip. You can also get to the top by foot (from Schierke), or take the train up and walk back. The view from the top was stunning, but be sure to go on a clear day -the Brocken is masked in cloud for 300 days a year or more.
There is no Wi-Fi in the apartment and, although internet can be accessed by data connection, the connection is slow. This in no way detracts from the holiday, but is worth knowing.
Overall an excellent holiday with a very warm welcome from our hosts.
We hebben zeer genoten van het appartement. Alles was prima in orde, we hebben 1 klein minpuntje ervaren op de dag voor ons vertrek wilden we in de tuin zitten en de eigenaar was de hele dag bezig met de tuin, wat ons tegenhield om buiten te gaan zitten. Verder geen klachten, alleen maar heel tevreden. Goed restaurant vlakbij, mooie omgeving, prachtige natuur. Hele aardige mensen, die vloeiend Duits en Engels spraken.
